Keeping well informed of this contemporary world of cut-throat competitions, we the MI College team, aim at creating an interdisciplinary and a holistic academic environment that enable students to gain knowledge without stress.
Education at MI College is neither just academic brilliance nor a consistent return, but an ambience where our culture and human skills meet together.

From ICCD to IIPD

A pre-school teacher training course named as Early Childhood Education was introduced by ICCD and it became very popular. As the student population increased so did the faculty and in 2009, ICCD campus was moved to a bigger campus and the name ICCD was changed to International Institute for Professional Development or IIPD. Similar to ICCD, IIPD too is under the company Mianz Pvt. Ltd. The name of IIPD was approved by Margareta Funder, the Manager of ITC, It is no more a career development centre as it became Professional Development Institute. IIPD became a Franchise of the largest training company in India the Aptech Computer Education. With this, IIPD opened another campus for IT education in Male’. IIPD has more than 700 students with over 30 staff. There are part time local teachers too. IIPD has been trying to start a preschool programme and has already partnered with International Preschools in four countries. International preschool program is run by a Florida, USA based company. It has many branches throughout the world. The motto of IIPD is “Inspiring Excellence”. IIPD remains with education and training. The long-term mission is to establish a dream university where it will groom the students to make great leaders, entrepreneurs, a complete human being who will be ready to contribute to the community and the world. IIPD will become global soon. It will start with its pre-school and Future Leader Program.
It focuses the countries in South and East Asia and in East Africa.

Future Leader Programme

The Future Leader Programme is the brain child of Ahmed Mottaki who was a cofounder of the Institute. Mr. Mottaki was a business teacher by profession and a faculty head of Aminiya School, a top-notch school owned by the Ministry of Education in Maldives. Mr. Mottaki was thinking something different. He felt that the nation will greatly benefit if there is a children’s programme where children could enhance leadership skills. He started participating in leadership seminars, reading books, meeting leaders and reading philosophy of the leaders and the traits of great leaders. After studying and researching a lot, he introduced a programme called Future Leader Programme in 2008 where children, learn leadership skills, work in groups, enjoy activities, are able to overcome their inner fears, build confidence and many more. The programme has been very popular in Maldives. Parents from many other countries showed interest for their kids to participate in this programme.
With the success of this programme, ICCD became very popular in the community.

International Recognition and Expansion of the Institute

ICCD has been adding value to its programmes. It obtained the license to run the International Supply Chain Management by International Trade Centre (ITC), a technical organization of the United Nations. By obtaining the license,
ICCD got international recognition and the opportunity and invitations to participate in international events.

We can proudly claim that today MIC is the most geographically dispersed higher education institute in the Maldives. What makes a Successful Online Learner?

1. Persistence

Persistence is perhaps the biggest key to success in online learning. Students who succeed are those who are willing to tolerate technical problems,
seek help when needed, work daily on every class, and persist through challenges.
- When you run into a challenge, keep trying and ask for help.
- Set up a manageable study schedule for yourself and stick to it. Students who succeed are those who log in and make progress every day.
  This is especially important after the novelty of going to school online starts to wear off!
2. Effective Time-Management Skills

You must be able to manage your time well. Most courses are not taught in real time. There are no set times for classes.

This flexibility is one of the great benefits of online learning. It can also be a drawback for a student who procrastinates, is unable to stick to a routine study schedule, or is not able to complete assignments without daily reminders from a teacher.

Effective time-management skills don’t just happen. They have to be learned. Once you do, they will benefit you throughout your life. Follow the tips below to develop yours:
- Review the syllabus for each of your courses. Develop a long-term plan for completing your major assignments.
- Make a daily “To Do” list. Have fun checking things off the list as you complete them.
It takes time to develop good habits, but you’ll gain satisfaction from being well-organized and accomplishing your tasks.

3. Effective and Appropriate Communication Skills

Communication skills are vital in online learning because students must seek help when they need it.
Teachers are willing to help students, but they are unable to pick up on non-verbal cues, such as a look of confusion on a student’s face. Follow these tips:

Use the tools provided by the school to communicate with your teachers. Many online schools and programs provide several ways for students and/or parents to communicate with teachers and staff. These might include e-mail, discussion groups, chat room office hours, cell phones, and even text messaging. Teachers and staff want to help you to succeed in your classes and will answer your questions. It may feel awkward to talk with your teachers this way, but don’t worry.
If your teacher has chat room or cell phone office hours, don’t be shy about using those tools to communicate with your teacher.

Use appropriate style and language for school. When communicating with teachers and other staff, you should write in full, grammatically correct sentences and with a respectful tone.
Many students are used to a very informal style of writing in chat rooms, blogs, text messages, and so forth.

Because of the distance, it’s tempting for some students to say things out of anger or frustration that they would never say to a teacher in person.
Online teachers are professionals. Treat them with respect and courtesy.

4. Basic Technical Skills

Online learners need basic technical skills to succeed. These include the ability to create new documents, use a word processing program, navigate the Internet, and download software.

Most online schools have new student orientation programs. These teach students how to use the school’s learning management system and other online tools, but they typically don’t cover the basics.

5. Reading and Writing Skills

Reading and writing are the main ways you’ll communicate in an online class.
Although some hard copies of textbooks might be required, you should be comfortable reading a lot of documents on a computer screen and able to type.

Some tests and quizzes have multiple choice questions, but many of your assignments will involve writing short or long answers.

How do E-Learning Classes Work?

E-learning Classes

E-learning courses at MI College cover the same subject matter and award equal credit as face-to-face courses. The difference with e-learning modality classes is that everything is done through Google Classroom (or Canvas in some occasions), the learning management system, and a computer with an internet connection.
The main advantage of e-learning courses is accessible, effective and affordable learning opportunities for all the students.

In Google Classroom, you can work on assignments, access course materials, submit assignments, communicate with your instructor and classmates via e-mail, participate in course discussions, view your internal assessment marks, and engage in other learning activities. However, by default, all module examinations are face-to-face except for emergency cases.
Please refer to the examinations policy for more details.

You should log in to your Google Classroom consistently each day to check for updates, deadlines, participate in discussions, and work on tutorials, quizzes and assignments.

If you need to edit work you turned in, you can unsubmit the assignment. But any assignment turned in or marked done after the due date is recorded as late.

Attendance and Participation

Attendance & Participation

In an e-learning class, your lecturer will assess your attendance and participation in the same way they do in a face-to-face course. You will be required to attend regularly, you will need to contribute frequently, and your contributions need to add substance to class interactions. You should be interacting with audio, and video should be on throughout the class. Students who do not respond to the lecturer, and students who do not keep their video on during live class might be considered absent.
Please refer to general guidelines, and attendance policy. Students who do not have sufficient attendance records will not be eligible for module examination
Online Etiquette – Be Nice!

Communicating online is an essential part of your online learning experience. You must be comfortable with written communication to participate in discussions, complete assignments, and work with instructors. Communicating in writing can be tricky. Written messages lack the tone of voice and facial expressions that help us to express ourselves in person. To be sure that we use clear communication,
it is important to follow some simple rules of internet etiquette or “Netiquette.” Netiquette is all about the code of behavior established for communicating online.

Netiquette Rules
- Be polite and ethical, and follow the same rules online as you would in person.
- Be aware of your “surroundings” and consider your audience.
- Be a clear and concise writer.
- Do not WRITE IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. It comes across as shouting. Use written annotations in your text to express mood. For example, you can use a variety of emoticon or surround words in asterisks, such as *smile*.
  Before posting a comment, read through your message to see how it will sound to the reader.
- Don’t assume negative intent. We all come with personalities. Remember, there is a person behind the words. Ask for clarification before making a judgment.
- Avoid jokes and sarcasm – they often don’t translate well to the online environment.
- Note that your email is not guaranteed to be private.
- Do not reveal your address, phone numbers, or Palomino ID number in an open discussion forum. Respect the privacy of your classmates’ personal information as well.

Time Management for Busy College Students

Time Management Tips

Time is a learned skill. Balancing responsibilities at your job, home, and school are not easy.
No matter what, you are always left with the same 24 hours in a day to check items off your to-do lists, spend time with family and friends, and unwind.

By planning ahead and using your time wisely, you will be able to accomplish more and enjoy added free time.

Follow the Seven time management tips and strategies below to ensure that you meet deadlines, are well prepared for exams and have time for yourself while pursuing a college degree.

Time Management Tips 1 & 2

Tip 1: Identify the time-wasters and set goals

It is easy to get distracted. Pay attention to what draws your focus away from your studies and assignments.

Are you spending too much time checking social media?
Are you prone to texting and answering personal phone calls while studying?
Do you find that a lot of time has passed while you aimlessly browse the web?
No matter what is wasting your time, set a goal to not engage in that behavior during dedicated study time.
Instead, use those activities as a reward for stay focused and accomplishing the tasks you set out to complete.

Make a list of things to do. Identify time wasters. Set goals for completion.

Tip 2: Plan ahead by creating a to-do list

Identify what you need to do, and then prioritize the tasks based on when the assignment is due and how much time you need to complete it. This gives you a set plan for the day.
Whether it is just a list of priorities or a full schedule for the day, having a plan will ensure that you know what to do and when.

Unless there is a pressing priority, it is important to also consider what sort of work you are in the mood to do.
- Do you feel creative? You may want to prioritize working on a writing assignment.
- Do you feel focused? You could spend the day studying for an upcoming assignment.
Time Management Tip 3: Tackle Small Tasks to Start

It is easy to get overwhelmed by large projects and big exams, and the anxiety can make you want to procrastinate.
Start with shorter, simpler to-do items and then move on to larger projects or assignments.
- What can you complete in the shortest time and has the fewest dependencies?
- What needs more time or has more complicated workflows?
Time Management Tip 4: Only Do One Thing at a Time

If you are trying to juggle multiple assignments and tasks, you will likely end up being less productive. To combat the urge to multitask, ask yourself:
- What are your most common distractions? (Email, social media, electronics, etc.)
- Can you turn off the devices or applications?
Turn off any devices that you can. And no matter what, do not switch to another task until the one before it is complete. This may be a hard habit to break, but it is worth it.

Time Management Tip 5: Establish Routines

A set routine can also help you establish the things you need to do. Is your home quietest in the early morning? You may want to get in the habit of regularly using that time to study or read.
The more often you do this, the less you will have to think about when you’ll accomplish the tasks you need to finish that day.

Time Management Tip 6: Use Breaks Wisely

he time between work, classes, activities, and meetings can be used to complete tasks. People who use the Pomodoro Technique, developed in the 1990s, work in short intervals and take short, regular, timed breaks or “Pomodoros.” For example, you might use a timer to work in 25-minute sprints, broken up by 5-minute breaks away from your workspace.

General Information & Orientation for Students

General Information to Students

ATTENDANCE
- Minimum 80% attendance is compulsory as per the requirement of MQA, to qualify students for exams.
  Students who do not attain this attendance will not be allowed to sit for exams.
- It is the students’ own responsibility to check attendance percentage regularly from the lecturer
- Students should attend all classes on time, and stay throughout the class, to qualify for attendance.
- In E-learning Modality classes, students are to make sure the video is always on and interact to obtain attendance for the classes. The lecturer has the authority to mark students absent although the student logged in to the class if the interaction in the class is noticed as low or never.
  If your video is switched off, there is a high chance that Lecturers will mark you absent, even if you are logged in.
- Medical leave is accepted only with a medical certificate, but those days are not going to be counted for attendance.
CLASSROOM REGULATIONS
- Modest and proper clothing
- Videos of students should be on at all times when participating in the class. Switch on the audio when requested by the lecturer, or there is a need to audio communication.
  Do not use chatlog for regular communications (E-learning modality students).
- Keep a quiet place to attend classes (E-learning modality students)
- Be attentive and participative
- Eating and other activities not encouraged during class
ASSESSMENTS
- In MI College Assessments are carried out very systematically. Each Module has various assessment components which are assessed periodically throughout the semester.
- Assessments are classified into two categories
  - Internal Assessments (50%) Varies from course to course
  - External Assessments (50%) Varies from course to course
- Internal Assessments: Examples of Internal Assessments

- External Assessments: Final Written Examination
ASSIGNMENT SUBMISSION
- Due dates of assignments and exams would be disclosed to students well in advance. Students are required to finish assignments on time.
- All assignments should be submitted through Google Classroom. No assignment will be accepted through emails or other platforms.
- Students should submit the assignments on the due date before 9 PM. Assignments will be accepted for up to 7 days.
- Delayed submissions will be accepted till the 7th calendar day from the due date with a deduction of 2.5% per day.
- Assignments will not be accepted in any condition after 7 calendar days.
- The Management will not be lenient with students who copy, try to copy or assist to copy in assessments and who plagiarize (take someone else’s ideas and words from the internet, books or any other sources and use them as if they were the student’s own ideas and words when writing assignments and doing projects).

MARKS PUBLICATIONS
- Students’ results will be published as soon as the results are received from the lecturers’ markings. It will be updated in SMART SCHOOL where the students will only be able to view the final grade as mentioned in the Grading Criteria.
- Marks will be provided only for the internal assessments of the module.
REMARKING
- Students who wish to go for a REMARKING can apply via SMART SCHOOL with the “request module” as it will be processed. Marks obtained in the remarking will be considered the final mark despite it being low or high and it will be updated in the SMART SCHOOL results tab.
RESIT INFORMATION
- Students who get 45- 49 marks will give a RESIT for the exam
- Request through SMART SCHOOL via the request module to apply when required.
- Make the payment when the request is approved and invoice is generated in SMART SCHOOL, and submit the slip to the Web Portal or MIC Mobile App and inform the Faculty Facilitator before 15th of the month.
- Exams are scheduled to be conducted in the last week of the month for RESIT students. You will be informed about the Exam Date prior to a weeks’ time at minimum.
- You will get only pass (50) marks for RESIT. To get the pass, you will have to pass in the Exam Paper. Your previous assignment marks will not be considered to add up to bring the pass percentage.
REDO INFORMATION
- Students who get 0- 44 marks will redo the module
- Request through SMART SCHOOL via the request module to apply when required.
- When the module is available you will be informed to make the payment.
- Make the payment when the request is approved and invoice is generated in SMART SCHOOL and submit the slip to the Web Portal or MIC Mobile App.
- Fill a separate request for each module you are redoing and inform your Faculty.
ADVANCED STANDING
- Advanced standing option is provided for students who have already completed same level courses and modules successfully.
- Fill the Advanced Standing form available at https://micollege.edu.mv/index.php/Home/Forms and mail to info@micollege.edu.mv
- Any incomplete forms will not be accepted and it will be returned.
- Until the module is provided with the advanced standing approval students are recommended to study the module
- In any case the approval is not received and the student did not attempt the module, a delay in course completing duration is to be barred by the student.
- Attachments needed-
  - Certificate, Transcripts (mandatory) and unit outline of previous study.
  - In the case of Teaching Practicum attach Experience letter NOT less than 3 years
    Please note: The Academic Review Committee at MI College will give the final approval for advanced standing and will be intimated through a formal letter. Until the reception of the letter the student has to attend the class. The minimum duration for approval is two weeks. So, apply in advance
EXAMS
- You have to get registered to the exams via the SMART SCHOOL request module.
- Examination Department will be providing the orientations for the examinations and related content when exams are being arranged.
- Basically, students will have only face-to-face exams. Students can go to any registered campus to do the examination in the physical setting, irrespective of the registered campus. For emergency and or medical reasons, if a student is unable to attend the exam, the student may appeal to the College in advance. However, this is not a guarantee that College will provide the exam in face-to-face or online modality.
- Copying in exams and plagiarism are strictly prohibited. The Management will not be lenient with students who try to copy in exams and who plagiarize (take someone else’s ideas and words from the internet, books or other sources and use them as if they were the student’s own ideas and words when writing assignments and doing projects).
- Actins will be taken against students who copy, try to copy, assist to copy.
REPORTING TO EXAM
- Students should report to the exam hall half an hour before exam starts.
- Students should bring their National ID cards when attending exams and show it to the invigilator. No student can enter the exam hall without showing their ID cards.
- Students are not allowed to bring in their bags, mobile phones, instrument boxes, pencil cases, books, etc. inside the exam hall
ABSENCE REPORTING FOR EXAMINATIONS
- The absence of an exam should be informed in advance to the Examination Department and the Faculty with valid proof / reasons for absence by filling the Student Appeal Form.
- In the absence of notification it will be considered as a RESIT / REDO where the marks of the internal Assessments will be compiled and projected as the result.
LIBRARY FACILITIES
- The library and student lobby are on the 7th floor next to the reception. You can use the library after contacting the reception or the teacher support. In order to borrow books, you need to sign and provide your details in the reception. Please take care of the books and return the books without delay.
  Online Library

PAYING COURSE FEE

Students are to pay the course fee as per the fee policy.
Students who have difficulties in getting the payment done, are to make sure they approach the Student Support Unit with relevant documents and explanations before the payment is due to avoid any fine generations.
Course fee can be paid monthly until the duration of the course is complete. You can pay in advance where possible to clear the course fees.
Admission fee is to be paid one time where it will not be refundable.
The total course fee is split to instalments, for the convenience of students. Hence, even when the classes complete before the course duration, monthly instalment has to be paid accordingly until the end of course duration.

COURSE DROP OR DEFER

Any Student who wishes to discontinue or defer the course should mail the relevant form available in the website to dean within 2 weeks.

Those who fail to notify may have to pay additional fees when rejoining.

Make sure that you have received a confirmation letter from the College confirming your course drop or differ request.

CLASS SCHEDULE

Every course Apart from Level 3 & Premasters will be held in semester mode.

Classes will be held 4 days a week Starting from 4 pm to 10 pm.

No classes will be held on all Fridays and public holidays

GOOGLE CLASSROOM

Every student will be provided with Google compatible email address from MI College. This email also can be used for any email communication to the College.

Your student email is created using your NID number, and is in the format

For foreign students, the email and password are created in the same pattern, but using the PP number.

All students will be pre-added to the enrolled Modules and students can use the JOIN button in Google Classroom, to join the Classes. There is no need to use any Classroom codes and Google Meet codes to join the classes.

Submission of academic work is to be done in Google Classroom.

LOGGING IN TO GOOGLE CLASSROOM

Students can join the Google classroom using two options:

Go to the address https://classroom.google.com/ and use the credentials provided from the College.

Go to https://www.google.com/ and then go to Google Apps (9 dots on the top right corner) to select Google Classroom.

When you use the Google Classroom for the first time, click “I’m a student” (you won’t see this option if using a personal account)

After logging in to the Google Classroom, check if you are using the required email address, because when you use multiple emails in the same device, the device sometimes might automatically pick your personal email registered in the device to access Google Classroom.

SMART SCHOOL

It’s a student data base at MIC
Students can use this platform for
- Fee status
- Attendance
- Assessment grades from the smart school.
- Request for various letters, certificates, transcripts
- Apply for resit, redo, convocation etc

FREE DEGREE

Free Degree is a service that is transacted between the student and Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE)
Students have to request for the Placement documents via Smart School
Application is to be done to MOHE
Tuition Fee amount will be paid to the student from MOHE on semester basis. For the documentation and confirmation, it might take few weeks or months. However, the student should be paying the College on monthly basis, irrespective of the receipt of free degree grant by MOHE.
College will not be responsible for any delay in receiving the free degree grant by the student from MOHE.
